Events for the 2nd Anniversary of Habitat Fukuoka Office,
Date:19 - 25 July 1999
The exhibition included around 60 photographs of Cambodia to provide the general public with information about the living conditions of its people. The pictures taken over several years presented a moving story of people's life during the difficult days of the recent history of Cambodia. The Exhibition helped to understand why Habitat's assistance is needed in developing countries for improving their living conditions.

Operational Activities of UNCHS (Habitat)
Symposium and Round Table, 27 - 29 June 1999
The objective of the Symposium was to disseminate information about ongoing operational activities in the Asia and Pacific Region. The Round Table meeting of the field staff of the habitat engaged in managing these activities provided an opportunity to enrich their knowledge and increase their effectiveness through the exchange of experiences amongst themselves and with participants from the academic and research institutions in Japan.
The Symposium held on the 27 June 1999 was open to the general public. It was organized around the themes of community participation, environment, and urban and rural development, and included presentations on innovative programmes in these fields that were of interest to the general public. This was followed by a Round Table Meeting during which there was a productive exchange of ideas on improving the effectiveness of Habitat's field operations through a sharing of experiences. The report of the Symposium will be published.

ハビタット福岡事務所は、1999年の「世界ハビタット・デー（10月4日）」を迎えるにあたって、国土庁、福岡県、福岡市、ハビタット福岡市民の会と共同で、福岡において以下の記念行事を開催しました。

[1]公開セミナー「アジアの都市問題に対する取り組み」
アジアの都市問題に対する協力事例について、福岡市、北九州市、ハビタットのプレゼンテーションと、パネリストを迎えてのフロアディスカッション。

[2]市民フォーラム「国連ハビタットって何だろう？」
ハビタット福岡事務所の市民サポートグループである「市民の会」が、クイズとゲームをとおして、会場にお集まりの方々とともに、人間居住問題や都市問題について、市民の立場で考えました。

[3]写真展「わたしたちとハビタット」
ハビタット福岡市民の会の企画により、市民の方々が撮影・作成したアジアの都市の写真や、ハビタットのプロジェクトの紹介パネルを展示。

都市貧困に関する国際フォーラム(IFUP)は、イスタンブール及びフィレンツエで開催された国際会議により提案・発展されました。その目的は、都市貧困削減にむけたイニシアティブのフォローアップ及び実施することです。フォーラムは、地方、国家並びに国際レベルにおける主要な利害関係者間の協力関係として認識されています。
第3回IFUP国際会議はナイロビで開催され、都市の社会統合に対する主な障害及び制約を識別し、先進国及び発展途上国双方においてこれまでの経験から得られた知識や最善策を学習・共有することを目的としています。また、会議はアクション・プランの実施を奨励しています。
会議は、主要会議と4つのグループ会議により構成されました。
