The conference focused on ”Sustainable Cities and Communities” – Situations of Solid Waste Management and localization of SDGs -. Besides sharing information on the state of Asian Cities and their problems in terms of urbanization, we also shared the Habitat III related issues, such as New Urban Agenda and International Guidelines on Urban and Territorial Planning and so on.
In addition, site visits were carried out before the conference to see what kind of community regeneration projects were promoted in/outside of Fukuoka city.
In the era of population decrease and aging society, Japanese communities face new problems like “how to regenerate the city” or “how to shrink the city”. The site visits were good case studies for responding to those problems which Asian counties would face in near future.
