The Expert Group Meetings are expected to be held annually, with participants from both Asia and the Pacific region and Japan. Representatives from Asia will introduce their environmental issues, challenges and concrete needs of the cities and the current progress of their work. On the other side of the meeting table, local governments from Japan, businesses and NGOs will introduce their technologies, know-how and share their experiences in overcoming issues such as environmental degradation at the municipality levels. Through the discussions, we aim to seek further opportunities for collaboration and partnerships, by matching the needs and technologies available. Pilot projects and follow up workshop information will also be available in this website.
In cases where a certain technology or know-how appears to be a potential effective solution to the specific urban issues introduced from the Asian cities, KCAP will conduct pilot projects which include feasibility studies, demos, and experiments.
Workshops for local government staff, schools, and citizens will be held to introduce and replicate useful know-how and experience in order to address various urban and environmental issues introduced at the Expert Group Meetings.
The Asian City Journalist Conference is held jointly by UN-HABITAT ROAP, Nishi Nippon Newspaper, and the Government of Japan (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Tourism and Transport), inviting distinguished journalists from Asian cities such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Dalian, Busan, Bangkok, Jakarta, Hoh Chi Min, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, and Singapore. The Conference aims to discuss the urban sustainability agenda, from sustainable transportation, urban safety, to broader topics such as addressing the urban divide, and to clarify the roles, responsibilities and further possibilities of the media.
