UNVEILING OF "NEPAL URBAN HOUSING SECTOR PROFILE"

"Nepal Urban Housing Sector Profile" prepared in partnership with UN-Habitat has been unveiled by Mr. Tulasi Prasad Sitaula, Secretary of Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MPPW) on Nov. 23, 2011 during the inaugural session of three days training programme on "Urban Development Policies, Plans, and Programmes" organized for Chief Executive Officers of municipalities. The programme was organized by Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, Ministry of Physical Planning and Works.

The Sector Profile was published UN-Habitat in close collaboration with the Government. It provides present status of urban housing scenario of Nepal which is a valuable study document for Government's initiatives and commitment to provide "shelter to all at an affordable cost." The study report was highlighted for its timely publication where the country is revising its shelter policy. This comprehensive report is first of its kind in the sector of housing. The major highlights of the profile are the analysis of key elements of the sector like urban land, basic services, finance, building materials and construction technologies. The profile was unveiled amidst the presence of key governmental officials and more than 40 Municipal Chief Executive Officers.
