The Environmental Technology Expert Group Meetings were held on 28th and 29th October, 2009 in Fukuoka, Japan. This year, the meetings focused on two environmental issues, 'waste management' and 'water and sanitation'. On the 28th, the meeting started with a keynote presentation from Fukuoka City, on the so called 'Fukuoka Method', as an example of waste management technology which has already been adopted in various cities outside of Japan. While representatives from Asia explained about the serious waste issues and challenges faced by the cities, business and NGO representatives from Japan spoke about various technologies and know-how which could potentially be solutions to some of these issues.
